"Director Lili-Anne Brown’s production is staged on a grand, multi-level set from Lauren M. Nichols that is a beautiful rendition of an affluent suburban home."
-Chris Jones , Chicago Tribune
"Lauren M. Nicholas's set design was mesmerizing, leaving the entire audience in awe. Many were so captivated by the stage house setup, featuring a fabulous kitchen, that we were ready to move in right after the show!"
-Rick McCain, Let's Play Theatrical Reviews
"Part of this show that stands out is the amazing set. The stage area has become a living room, with a kitchen area that is quite realistic, and I can only guess from what I saw take place that all the appliances are working. I know the sink is. There is also a staircase going up to the second floor and we do spend some time in the guest room. I think Lauren M. Nichols and her staff did an amazing job, and it works. "
-Alan Bresloff, Around the Town Chicago
"Technically speaking, this production is also a winner. Lauren M. Nichols’ impressively realistic Scenic Design actually made audiences stop in their tracks, while entering the theatre. She’s created a fantastic two-story house and yard. While upstairs is a handsomely decorated guest bedroom, the lower level of the house features a plush seating area and an authentically functioning kitchen. If you’re sitting close enough, you can even smell the delicious aroma of Cordell’s hot wings being cooked. Peer through the window and you’ll see trees and bushes growing outside. Check out the backyard and porch area and observe the basketball court, the garden greenery and the trash cans for soaking the bar-be-que wood chips."
-Colin Douglas, Chicago Theatre Review
"The production itself is a feast for the senses. Lauren M. Nichols' scenic design transforms the stage into a believable and vibrant middle-class Memphis home."
- Wesley David, Buzz News
"Even the set, designed in this solid Writers Theater production by Lauren M. Nichols, looks inviting."
-Steven Oxman, Chicago Sun-Times
"Brown and lighting designer Jason Lynch do a wonderful job of zeroing in on the important and more intimate moments of dialogue amid Nichols’ very convincing kitchen-focused set. "
- Scott C. Morgan, Windy City Times
"Lauren M Nichols creates a set that perfectly telegraphs the class and
comfort of this family."
-Angela Allyn, Chicago Stage and Screen
"Director Lili-Anne Brown makes the most of the red-hot script and humongous set—a bifurcated house designed by Lauren M. Nichols complete with kitchen, living room, backyard, foyer and upstairs bedroom. Attention to detail by lighting designer Jason Lynch—like the gradual color change of the rising and setting sun through windows—makes this world feel incredibly real."
